Free Program!
The McMillen Center is excited to be partnering with PHP for the 2010.2011 school year to offer our fifth grade program Food, Fitness and Fun for FREE to all schools within 100 miles of Fort Wayne, Indiana, who have already scheduled a McMillen Center program for any grade.
The McMillen Center and PHP have a common goal of improving the health status of our community. One-third of children are obese and overweight and face health issues such as diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and a shortened life span. However, research indicates there is also a relationship between obesity, physical activity, and academic achievement levels. Healthier students perform better in school, making nutrition, and physical activity education critical.
Some restrictions apply. Please call 260.456.4511 for more details.
Program Description:
This program will challenge students to be fit for life. During the Food Frenzy activity, students will race against time to discover the functions of nutrients in a healthy diet. They will spin to win Snack Attack and grasp the concept of nutrient density in food. Cardio Challenge will inspire the pursuit of an active lifestyle while demonstrating how sedentary and cardiovascular activities are different.
