Laura Kauffman joined the staff of the McMillen Center in the fall of 2008 as a Health Educator. Laura graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, first, with a Bachelor of Science in Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement. One year later, she received her Master of Science degree in Education, after having received graduate credit from Indiana University for an internship she did in Orleans Parish Schools. Laura pursued another Master’s degree, this one in Education Administration, from the University of New Orleans. Laura lived in New Orleans for many years before Hurricane Katrina prompted her to move back to Indiana in 2005. While in New Orleans, she taught in several magnet schools. Through out her educational career, she has focused on enhancing the development of the whole child. Laura’s recognizes this includes respecting and reinforcing all aspects of a young person’s development including cognitive, aesthetic, social, emotional, and health/physical. With her appreciation that healthy students function better in school and in life, she is a good fit with the philosophy and community commitment of the McMillen Center. Laura is interested in applying her interest in brain research to health programs for students and the community. She excited about working with the McMillen staff to teach and develop educational programs that focus on the brain, such as Be a Brain Builder. You may contact Laura at: |
